On 27 October 2012, YEC conducted an excursion to Gardens by the Bay.  The contingent of 34, consisting of Kebun Baru Youth Executive Committee members, volunteers and 5 families toured around Gardens by the Bay. YEC members were attached to the families and led them around various parts of the garden, like the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest and OCBC Skyway. At the Flower Dome, many were fascinated by the beauty of the flowers and exotic plants. While at the Cloud Forest, many were awed by the majestic waterfall. Walking along the OCBC Skyway, participants had a close up view of the flower pods and took in the view of the skyscrapers in the city in a distance. Everyone went home with wonderful memories and plenty of photographs.

GET OUT! 2012 People’s Band Competition

Calling out for bands to take part in an online competition called “GET OUT! 2012 People’s Band Competition. Interested bands can visit www.centralsingaporedcdc.org.sg/getout to sign up for the contest and/or turn up at the event on the day itself. 

The target is to attract youth who have their own bands or musical groups to upload YouTube links of their performances. Top 5 bands based on the number of online votes will be given a chance to perform at our inaugural outdoor concert at The Promontory@Marina Bay on Saturday, 20 October 2012.

*About SHINE Youth Festival

Initiated in 2005, SHINE Youth Festival is a platform for youths between the age of 15 and 35 to indulge in their passion. The initiative celebrates youths’ creativity and dynamism and encourages them to use SHINE Youth Festival as the stage to demonstrate their energy and grow their skills and talents.

Organised by the National Youth Council, steered by a committee made up of representatives from youth organisations and executed by a Youth Organising Committee consisting of volunteers, the vibrant and colourful SHINE Youth Festival is held in the designated Youth Month in July. SHINE Youth Festival features an exciting line up of events and activities is presented by its 4 key marquee partners: Mascot Parade, O School, Singapore Street Festival and the Singapore Management University.

New Aikido Class

- Aikido is a Japanese form of Maritial Arts
- Combination of self-defence movements taken from sword and spear fighting, jujitsu, aikjutsu and other ancient forms of martial arts.

Community Games 2012

The Community Games 2012 is here!

The Community Games (CG) serves as the qualifying round for the Singapore National Games (SNG). Lots of activities such as Badminton, Basketball, Bowling and Football will be held at the Community Clubs (CCs), sports halls and sports facilities across the island.

Kebun Baru Intergeneration Sports Day

On 1 April 2012,  Kebun Baru Intergeneration Sports Day was held at Blk 160/162 Mayflower Mall along Ang Mo Kio Ave 4. The Guest-of-Honor was Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC. Kebun Baru Grassroots Adviser Mr Inderjit Singh, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC and People's Association Cheif Executive Director of People's Association also graced the event. 

 

YEC together with the Mayflower Service Learning Club was in charge of mending the games stalls. Kebun Baru residents had an exciting morning working out and having fun with their families.

World Water Day

 “Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters for All"

On a bright sunny morning of 24 March 2012, among the host of activities island-wide, Kebun Baru YEC participate in the World Water Day at Kallang River @ Bishan Park. 

The guest-of-honor was Dr Intan Azura Mokhtar, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC. Kebun Baru Grassroots Advisor Mr Inderjit Singh, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC also graced the event.

YEC partnered with Teck Ghee YEC to spearhead the children's art colouring contest. Understanding that children should be taught about importance of water since young, the colouring contest organised for the PCF children. Exciting prizes were given out to the top 10 pieces.
